Every Tuesday morning during the winter months, our Wärmestube offers hot home-cooked meals, medical care, clothing and canned goods, personal care items, and warm Christian hospitality to our neighbors in need. This ministry is co-sponsored by ESUMC and the German-speaking Fünfhaus congregation, and is operated by volunteers from the two congregations and friends from the Old Catholic community and other Christian and secular organizations. Pastor Antje Klein of the Fünfhaus congregation offers this reflection.

Under the leadership of Jutta Dietl, our team of volunteers works tirelessly to ensure that freshly cooked food is available at the buffet every week, our guests can sit and relax at lovingly set tables, everyone gets a piece of cake and fruit, clothing and donations are available to take away, and all feel welcome.

Already by the end of February, we have exceeded last season's total number of guests. We are happy to be able to help, but at the same time we are dismayed at how desperately this help is apparently needed by more and more people. It is not always easy to accommodate the large number of people in our fellowship area, but we are grateful that the atmosphere remains blessed, and that there has been enough food so far!

What is still lacking in this world is peace. On a recent Tuesday, volunteers and guests brought our desire and our prayers for peace before God, and gave each other the gift of peace (with thanks to R. for the inspiration!). Thanks be to God, there is always something to pass on: God's blessing. Of this gift, there is enough for everyone! With this confidence, we have blessed people in the name of God this season. The blessings have come through anointing with oil and cloth. And on Shrove Tuesday, on the eve of Lent, blessings came in the form of Krapfen and streamers. After all, joy is also a gift of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22)!

We look forward to welcoming our neighbors into the Wärmestube every Tuesday morning through the end of March. Come by and join in the fun! It's better to spend the winter together.

P.S. We, and especially our guests, are always grateful for donations, whether they be clothing, canned goods, and personal care items, or donations to the Wärmestube account (EmK Wien Wärmestube; IBAN AT32 2011 1828 2113 7108; BIC GIBAATWWXXX; ERSTE BANK Vienna). Thank you very much!
